Maria G. Fontes, 47, of Cranston, passed away on April 30th, 2023. Born in Praia, Cape Verde to Regina Gibau and the late Joao Gibau. She was the wife of James Gonsalves.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her two children Rachel Gibau Fontes and Giovanni Gibau Gonsalves, Four siblings Joao Gibau and his wife Angela, Edalberto Gibau and his wife Leonor, Euclides Gibau and his wife Nilda, Helena Gibau Godley and her husband Carlos Da Cruz Pereira, Nieces, and Nephews Sofia Gibau, Keve Gibau, Andreia Gibau, Alyssa Gibau, Adriana Gibau, Giovanna Gibau, Diego Gibau, her godchildren Gerard Godley Jr. and Gabriel Gibau Da Cruz.
Maria Gibau Fontes left behind an incredible impact at Brown University for the past 21 years as a 2nd shift custodial assistant. She is remembered for her warm presence and accredited contributions to the Facilities Management department. In her free time, she enjoyed arts and crafts and had a great vision for party decor and house decor. By her relatives and close friends, she is known for her great kindness and hospitality as she graciously hosted holidays and special occasions in her lovely home. Behind her, she has left everyone with cherish-able memories, laughs, and hearts full of joy. Maria’s great faith and positive attitude continues to inspire and shed light on those who had the privilege of meeting her.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Calling Hours Sunday, May 14th from 4pm-7pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave. Lincoln. Her celebration of life will begin on Monday, May 15th, 2023, in the Keefe Funeral Home at 8:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 291 High St. Pawtucket RI at 10am. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
